The Steed Stone

Standing stone northwest of Solitude, just north of the Statue to Meridia, granting +100 carry weight and making equipped armor weightless with no movement penalty.

The Steed Stone is one of Skyrim’s standing stones, found northwest of Solitude and directly north of the Statue to Meridia. It is the patron stone of hoarders, heavy-armor fans and anyone who has ever been told they are carrying too much to run. Touch it, swap your blessing and enjoy the extra pocket space.

What you’ll find

  • The standing stone itself, which grants the Steed blessing when activated.
  • The Statue to Meridia a short walk to the south, worth combining into the same trip.

The Steed blessing

  • +100 carrying capacity.
  • No movement penalty from wearing armor.
  • Equipped armor weighs nothing.

Like other standing stones, only one blessing can be active at a time, so picking the Steed means giving up whichever stone you had before.

Tips

The effects overlap with the Conditioning perk (Heavy Armor), Unhindered (Light Armor) and Extra Pockets (Pickpocket), so the stone is a great way to save perk points for other trees. It even goes one better than the armor perks: clothing, shields and jewelry also become weightless while worn. Stack it with Extra Pockets and your carry weight jumps by 200. A neat side effect is that carrying several copies of the same base armor costs nothing as long as you are wearing one of them – even if they have different enchantments. Pack mules everywhere are weeping.

Good to know

Because worn gear weighs nothing but carried gear still counts, swapping equipment can nudge your encumbrance up or down in ways that look odd. Changing from a bow or two-handed weapon to a staff or a one-hander and shield can be enough to tip you over the limit, so check your weight after a loadout change before a long walk.
