Dragontooth Crater is a dragon lair tucked into the mountains northwest of the Shrine to Peryite and the mining town of Karthwasten. The big draw is a Word Wall for Elemental Fury, plus a chest – both, naturally, under the watch of a dragon. Who lives here depends on how far you have come in the main story, so the crater you find on one visit may not be the one you find on the next.
What you’ll find
- Before Dragon Rising: a small group of Forsworn and a hagraven have set up here, complete with tents and a bloodstained altar.
- After Dragon Rising: the Forsworn are gone, a dead hagraven lies nearby, and a leveled dragon has moved in.
- Reportedly up to three dragons can show up in and around the crater, so one kill does not always mean the sky is clear.
- A Word Wall carved with the Elemental Fury shout, and a treasure chest close by.
- A random encounter point at the foot of the hill on the path up. It can produce anything from a harmless wanderer or peddler to a band of Forsworn or Blood Horkers.
Quests
The lair can come up as a target for the Dragon Bounties radiant quest, where you are paid to deal with the dragon nesting here.
Notable items
- Word Wall: Elemental Fury – one of the shouts worth grabbing for melee builds.
- The lair’s treasure chest.
Tips
If you fast travel here, think twice before wandering back down the hill mid-fight. Walking past the encounter point at the bottom can spawn a fresh group of enemies, and a Forsworn ambush on top of a high-level dragon is nobody’s idea of a good afternoon. Fight near the top, finish the dragon, then go exploring.
Planning to come here before the main quest moves on? Then bring the tools for a hagraven and her Forsworn friends rather than dragon-proof armour – the threat changes completely with the story.
Good to know
The Word Wall stands so close to the cliff behind it that the dragon cannot perch on top of it as dragons usually do at their lairs. Instead it settles on the ground, which makes for a slightly undignified but much easier target. Some players also report finding a dead hagraven at their feet right after fast travelling in – consider it a welcome mat.
