Fort Hraggstad

Well-preserved hilltop fort northwest of Solitude above the Sea of Ghosts, held by bandits until the Civil War makes it a prize for the Legion or the Stormcloaks.

Fort Hraggstad sits on a snowy peak northwest of Solitude, looking out over the Sea of Ghosts with a sheer cliff on its northern side and patchy forest on the slopes to the south. In a land full of crumbling forts, this one is still in remarkably good shape, which is exactly why both armies want it. Before the Civil War kicks off, though, it belongs to a gang of bandits who probably think they found the best real estate in the region.

What you’ll find

  • About seven bandits outside, including a lookout watching the main gate.
  • Six more inside: three in the prison who react fast, and three – including the Bandit Chief – in the garrison with the beds.
  • A rear entrance without a gate, and a hole in the north wall where a tower has collapsed.
  • Ingredients: garlic, a salt pile up in the tallest tower, and a rock warbler egg in the prison.
  • Later in the war: an Imperial or Stormcloak garrison, depending on how things go.

Tips

Skip the front door and its lookout. Swing around to the right and slip in through the rear entrance, or use the gap in the north wall where the tower fell, and you can catch the bandits off guard. Inside, be ready for the prison trio to jump you right away unless your Sneak is very high.

If you clear the fort before joining the Imperial Legion, the recruitment trial may count as done early, the bandits may respawn for you, or soldiers may simply move in after a few days. Either way, the bandits don’t get to keep the view.
