The Armory is one of the three choices for the east wing of a Hearthfire homestead, built on to the Main Hall. It picks the east wing over the Kitchen and Library, so it is for players who love hammering metal or simply hoard armor and weapons. The section is the same at Lakeview Manor, Windstad Manor and Heljarchen Hall.
What you’ll find
- Display space: five armor mannequins (each with a cupboard), four glass display cases, two weapon plaques and two sets of four weapon racks.
- Crafting: an Armorer Workbench and a Grindstone for improving gear (Smithing), plus tanning racks.
- Storage: a chest, cupboards, display-case cupboards and dressers.
- Trophies: mounted bear, horker, sabre cat and wolf heads.
- Porch: an outdoor wooden balcony reached from the second floor, with benches, tables, a washbasin and archery targets. It can join up with the porch of the north-wing Storage Room.
Building costs
The structure goes up in five stages (doors, foundation, floor and wall supports, roof, walls) and needs 14 sawn logs, 18 quarried stone, 14 nails, 3 clay, 3 iron fittings, 3 locks and 6 hinges. Fully furnished, the whole room totals roughly 62 sawn logs, 26 quarried stone, 77 nails and 28 iron fittings, plus a pile of hides and tusks for the trophies. Hinges, fittings, locks and nails boil down to about 46 iron ingots and 4 corundum ingots, while glass and straw cost a few dozen gold.
Tips
A steward will furnish the Armory for 2,000 gold, but crafting it yourself at the indoor Carpenter’s Workbench is far cheaper. Every furnishing is permanent once built, and the wing choice locks in as soon as construction starts. Keep dragon bones and scales out of the display cases – players report the game can freeze and keep freezing whenever you touch anything in the room. Also, mannequins sometimes get creative and respawn armor pieces you removed; free loot, technically.
