Lost Valkygg

Draugr tomb hidden among Labyrinthian’s ruins with two entrances, early Draugr Deathlords wielding ebony weapons, an alchemy lab and the Aevar Stone-Singer skill book.

Lost Valkygg is a tunnel-style Nordic tomb tucked inside the ruins of Labyrinthian, in the mountains southeast of Morthal. Its two entrances are close together near the circular mound that holds the Wooden Mask. It looks like a minor side dungeon, but don’t be fooled: Draugr Deathlords can appear here even at level 1, which makes it either a death trap or a shortcut to ebony gear, depending on your luck.

What you’ll find

  • Leveled draugr, many popping out of coffins and sarcophagi, including two “dead” draugr on an altar that are very much alive.
  • Two Draugr Deathlords with randomized ebony weapons, one guarding a chest beside a deep hole in the floor.
  • Pressure plates and dart traps, including an apprentice-locked gate with a poison dart plate right in front of it.
  • An alchemy lab in a dark alcove off a large room.
  • A gated cell with a chained skeleton – take the potato from the plate on the floor and the skeleton drops from its chains.
  • A boss chest in a room with a noticeably slanted floor, and another chest on a rock shelf below.
  • Several salt piles, burial urns and gemstones.

Notable items

  • Ebony Bow, plus an Ebony Greatsword, Warhammer or Battleaxe from the Deathlords.
  • Aevar Stone-Singer – Pickpocket skill book in the small gated room with the chained skeleton.
  • Kahvozein’s Fang (possible location).
  • Leveled loot and a steel horned helmet behind the trapped gate.

Tips

Use the main entrance, the door at the bottom of the sunken stairs; the door set into the wall face is the exit. The first Deathlord often does not notice you right away, so sneak in for a big opening hit. He favours a strong bow and Unrelenting Force, and that hole next to his chest is the perfect place for him to shout you into. To reach the lower level, drop through the hole – aim for the beams partway down to soften the landing – or leave and come back through the secondary entrance. Save before either; a second Deathlord attacks the moment you arrive.

Good to know

Getting an ebony bow off a Deathlord at low level is a classic early-game power move – just make sure you live long enough to use it.
