Fortify Lockpicking Potions

Fortify Lockpicking potions make picking locks 20 to 50 percent easier for 30 seconds, saving lockpicks on stubborn chests and doors.

A locked chest marked Expert or Master can eat through a whole stack of lockpicks if your skill is low. Fortify Lockpicking potions ease the problem by making locks easier to work for 30 seconds, widening the window in which a pick will turn. Thieves, burglars and dungeon divers with little investment in the skill benefit most, though anyone who hates leaving a locked strongbox behind will find them handy.

All tiers

Name Effect Value Weight Form ID
Potion of Lockpicking Lockpicking 20% easier for 30 seconds 45 0.5 00039930
Draught of Lockpicking Lockpicking 30% easier for 30 seconds 70 0.5 00039945
Philter of Lockpicking Lockpicking 40% easier for 30 seconds 96 0.5 00039946
Elixir of Lockpicking Lockpicking 50% easier for 30 seconds 123 0.5 00039948

Where to find them

You can buy them from vendors who stock potions or pick them up as loot. The tiers are leveled, so the Philter and Elixir versions become more common as your character levels up.

Brewing your own

With the Alchemy skill you can mix your own at any alchemy lab. These ingredients carry the Fortify Lockpicking effect:

Any two of them combined will produce the potion. Eating an unfamiliar ingredient reveals one of its effects, which helps you find matches without wasting a whole batch.

Tips

  • With only 30 seconds of effect, drink the potion while standing at the lock, not on the way there.
  • If several locked containers sit in the same room, open them back to back to make the most of one dose.

Where to find it

  • Sold by vendors who stock potions
  • Found as leveled loot; stronger tiers appear at higher player levels
  • Brewed with Alchemy
