Atmah was a Redguard mage of the College of Winterhold and, by all accounts, the Arch-Mage’s favourite student back in her day. She is also the reason a group of eager young mages ended up in Labyrinthian in the first place: the whole trip was her idea. It did not end well. Today all that is left of her is a psychic echo replaying the expedition’s final hours.
Where to find them
You only meet Atmah as a ghostly impression inside Labyrinthian. As you push deeper into the ruin, the old scenes trigger one after another, showing the group arriving, losing members and pressing on regardless.
Quests
Her echoes play out during The Staff of Magnus. Listen closely and you piece together the story: first confident, joking that six College-trained mages can handle anything, then shaken as companions fall, and finally blaming herself and wondering aloud whether they should turn back. By the end she is one of the last two standing beside Hafnar Ice-Fist, who decide to face whatever waits behind the final door together.
That decision is why she is still there. Atmah and Hafnar are the two Enthralled Wizards who keep the Dragon Priest Morokei imprisoned in the depths of the ruin.
Personality & relationships
Atmah starts out breezy and sure of herself, promising they will be back before anyone notices they left, which earns her a jab about being teacher’s pet from Girduin. As things go wrong she becomes the guilty conscience of the group. The young Savos Aren points out that the plan was hers, and he is the only member of the expedition to survive. The others, Elvali Veren and Takes-In-Light, die along the way.
Good to know
- Even though the story makes clear that Atmah is one of the Enthralled Wizards, both wizard models in the final chamber are male.
- Her name means ‘spirit’ or ‘ghost’ in several South Asian languages, which is grimly fitting.
