“A New Order” is the first quest on the Dawnguard side after you refuse Harkon in Bloodline. The vampires hit back hard, and Isran finally accepts that the Dawnguard needs more people. Your job: bring in two of his old allies.
Walkthrough
Back at Fort Dawnguard
When you return, the fort is under attack. Fight off the vampires alongside Durak, Celann, Vori and Isran himself, then talk to Isran. He gives you two names.
Recruit Gunmar
Gunmar is a Nord hunter and an old friend of Isran. The quest marker sends you to a cave where he’s been tracking a bear for two weeks – the exact cave varies from game to game. He won’t leave until it’s dead, so help him kill it and he’ll head for the fort.
Recruit Sorine Jurard
Sorine Jurard is a Breton tinkerer camped by a Dwemer ruin in the Reach, west of Druadach Redoubt and south of Darkfall Cave. She’s lost her satchel of Dwemer gyros and refuses to budge until she has one back. Three options:
- Find the satchel on the nearby riverbank, a few steps southeast of her, by a tree growing out of the rock.
- Hand her any Dwemer gyro you already carry.
- Talk her round with a high enough Speech skill.
Return to Isran
Back at the fort, Isran tests the newcomers for vampirism by flooding the entrance hall with sunlight – a very Isran way of saying welcome. He briefs everyone, gives Sorine and Gunmar their jobs and calls you upstairs. That leads straight into Prophet.
Rewards
No item reward, but the fort gets a lot more useful: after your next visit Gunmar works as a blacksmith and Sorine as a merchant (and the crossbow expert who later upgrades your bolts).
Notes
- If you are a vampire at this point, Isran won’t let you into the Dawnguard until you’re cured – he points you to Falion in Morthal.
- Florentius Baenius, the third recruit, comes later through Sorine.
Known bugs
Gunmar’s quest marker can fail to appear, and with the Dragonborn add-on he has been reported on Horker Island. Sorine sometimes refuses gyros, and the gates in the fort can stay raised after the briefing – waiting 24 hours outside usually helps.
