Ancano

Ancano is an Altmer mage and Thalmor agent stationed at the College of Winterhold as an “advisor” to Arch-Mage Savos Aren. He makes no secret of thinking the College’s mages are beneath him, and the feeling is entirely mutual.

In the questline

Ancano starts out as an irritating presence who stops you outside the Arcanaeum to ask what you found in Saarthal. As the College studies the Eye of Magnus, his true intentions come out: he tries to seize the Eye’s power for himself, sealing himself off in the Hall of the Elements and throwing Winterhold into chaos. He’s the main antagonist of the College questline.

Magic

Ancano is a dangerous elemental mage: Chain Lightning, Fireball, Incinerate and Thunderbolt, strong wards and healing spells, and he can summon Storm and Frost Atronachs.
