The Dwarven Centurion – often called the Steam Centurion – is the heavy hitter among Dwemer machines. Thousands of years after its builders vanished, it still guards their ruins with steam blasts and a giant mechanical arm.
Where to find them
Deep in Dwemer ruins, usually as a boss at the end of the dungeon – Alftand, Mzinchaleft and Raldbthar all have one waiting in a charging gantry. Dawnguard adds a unique fire-breathing Centurion, the Forgemaster, as the final boss of “Lost to the Ages”. Smaller automatons – Dwarven Spiders and Spheres – are much more common.
Abilities & attacks
- Steam breath (75 points; 100 for the Master)
- Heavy hammer and axe arm strikes
- Often starts inactive in a charging gantry and wakes when you get close
How to beat it
Get a few strong ranged hits in while it's still dormant. Use fire, shock or plain damage – never frost or poison. Unrelenting Force will stagger it, and Marked for Death strips its heavy armor. A well-known trick in melee: stand right up against its legs, where it struggles to hit you.
Loot & harvestables
Centurion Dynamo Core (always)
Grand Soul Gem (always)
Dwarven metal scraps, gems and leveled arrows
Lore & trivia
The Dwemer powered their machines with soul gems – which is why automatons sometimes carry one.
