Spriggan Earth Mother

The strongest spriggan, added with Dawnguard: a purple-glowing nature spirit that wields boosted spriggan magic and calls animals to defend its grove.

The Spriggan Earth Mother sits at the top of the spriggan family tree. Introduced with Dawnguard, it is a level 30 guardian of wild places that uses beefed-up versions of the usual spriggan tricks, including summoning animals to fight for it. If you have learned to handle a Spriggan Matron, expect this one to hit harder, last longer and bring more friends.

Telling the two apart is easy once you know the trick: wherever a matron glows orange, an Earth Mother glows purple. That colour even survives death. Ordinary spriggans and matrons fade to plain wood once killed, while an Earth Mother keeps its violet interior. The title itself seems to nod to real-world nature goddesses such as Gaia or Mother Nature.

Where to find them

With Dawnguard installed, Earth Mothers can appear in these spriggan haunts:

Several of these are places the main questlines or side quests send you anyway, so an Earth Mother can turn a routine visit into a much tougher fight than expected.

Notes

  • With 765 health and 250 magicka, an Earth Mother outlasts most of the wildlife it summons, so expect a long fight rather than a quick ambush.
  • It holds a Greater soul, making it a worthwhile target for a soul gem.
  • Its remains yield taproot, a useful alchemy ingredient.

Abilities & attacks

  • Call Creatures: summons nearby wildlife to fight on its side.
  • Stronger versions of the standard spriggan attacks.
  • Magicka 250, stamina 195.

How to beat it

The Earth Mother fights like a matron turned up a notch, so the main danger is the pack of animals it calls in. Deal with the summoned creatures quickly or keep moving so you are not surrounded, then focus the spriggan itself. Its purple glow makes it easy to pick out from regular spriggans in a mixed group.
