Silus Vesuius’s House

Silus Vesuius’s home in Dawnstar doubles as a museum to the Mythic Dawn, with display cases of cult robes, commentaries and the scabbard of Mehrunes’ Razor.

Silus Vesuius’s House stands at the very end of the right-hand side of Dawnstar. Its owner, Silus Vesuius, has turned it into a museum dedicated to the Mythic Dawn, the cult behind the Oblivion Crisis – which, unsurprisingly, the locals don’t love. Once you hit level 20, a courier eventually brings you an invitation, and you’ll find Silus arguing outside with the court wizard Madena about whether his museum should exist at all.

What you’ll find

  • Silus himself, delighted to tell you that you are his very first visitor.
  • Four display cases; approach each one and Silus tells its story:
    • Mythic Dawn robes, gloves and boots.
    • A tattered page from the Mysterium Xarxes.
    • Copies of all four Mythic Dawn Commentaries.
    • The scabbard of Mehrunes’ Razor.
  • Adept-level locks on all the displays.
  • A cast iron pot next to the fireplace – more useful than it looks.

Quests

Pieces of the Past – Silus wants the scattered pieces of Mehrunes’ Razor, a dagger that once belonged to his family, and the quest eventually leads to the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon.

Notable items

  • Mythic Dawn Commentaries 1–4.
  • Mythic Dawn Boots, Gloves and Robes – plus the hooded version of the robes, which can only be obtained here (two robes sit in the locked case).

Tips

Want the exhibits? You have options. When Silus asks you to help at the shrine, say it sounds like a terrible idea: he goes off alone and leaves the museum empty for you. Killing him also makes everything ownerless, before or after giving him the Razor. If you prefer a gentler heist, high Sneak lets you crouch by the cases unseen – Silus usually faces away from the books case, and for the uniform case, crouch on its left side near the museum door. The Quick Hands Lockpicking perk lets you pick the locks unnoticed, though taking the items still risks a bounty. Or, in true Skyrim fashion, put that iron pot over his head. Note that stolen Commentaries stay flagged as stolen even after selling them to a fence and buying them back.

Good to know

Hit the Mysterium Xarxes page and it turns into a bucket. Ancient cursed artefact, everyone.
