The Arch-Mage’s Quarters sit at the top of the main tower of the College of Winterhold, high above Winterhold. The rooms belong to Arch-Mage Savos Aren at first, but after The Eye of Magnus you inherit both the title and the furniture. Not a bad promotion package.
What you’ll find
- Entry via the staircase directly on your left as you step into the Hall of the Elements.
- A book-lined hallway that also connects to The Arcanaeum and the top of the College.
- A round chamber built around a central alchemy garden where you can harvest ingredients.
- An Alchemy Lab and an Arcane Enchanter, so you can brew and enchant without leaving your bedroom.
- Storage: a bed, three wardrobes, a safe, a chest, five barrels and two display cases.
Quests
- Hitting the Books
- No Stone Unturned – there’s a Stone of Barenziah on a bookshelf here.
- The Eye of Magnus hands you the keys.
Notable items
- A Stone of Barenziah on a bookshelf.
- Enchanted boots with 40% shock resistance.
- A Dwarven Dagger in a display case.
- A Staff of the Frost Atronach on a shelf.
- Several filled soul gems.
Tips
While Savos is still in charge, the ingredients, food and odds and ends here come back every two or three days, and you can reportedly take them without picking up a bounty. Once you’re Arch-Mage, that restock slows to roughly 30 days, so the cheeky phase is actually the profitable one. Be wary of the case at the foot of the bed – players report it eating stored items – so keep your treasures in the wardrobes or safe instead. And if a stray fireball sends objects floating mid-air, just give them a nudge.
Good to know
Unlike most homes, your spouse can’t move in here, the same rule that applies to the Jorrvaskr quarters and the Dawnstar Sanctuary. The Arch-Mage’s job, apparently, comes with strict guest policies. If you want to keep exploring, The Midden lies deep beneath the College.
