Rings of Blood Magic

Feran Sadri asks a Vampire Lord to recover the Ring of the Beast and the Ring of the Erudite, two rings Molag Bal once gave to ancient Vampire Lords.

Rings of Blood Magic is a Volkihar side quest in the Dawnguard expansion that sends you after two pieces of very old vampire jewelry. Feran Sadri, the alchemist of Castle Volkihar, explains that Molag Bal once gave a pair of powerful rings to ancient Vampire Lords, and that both have since drifted into the hands of owners who do not deserve them. He would like them back on the fingers of a Vampire Lord, and conveniently, that is you.

How to start

Walkthrough

Track down the two rings

The journal marks two separate radiant locations, one for the Ring of the Beast and one for the Ring of the Erudite. At each site the ring is either carried by a leveled boss or stored in a chest. The pool of possible locations is huge, from Bleak Falls Barrow, Ansilvund and Fellglow Keep to Rannveig’s Fast, Volskygge, Haemar’s Shame and Redwater Den. With the Dragonborn add-on installed, a ring may also turn up on Solstheim, for example at Bloodskal Barrow or Moesring Pass.

Because many of the locations are full dungeons, check which two you were given before setting off and plan the trip so you are not crossing the province twice.

Return to Feran Sadri

Once you hold both rings, travel back to Castle Volkihar and report to Feran.

Rewards

  • Ring of the Beast.
  • Ring of the Erudite.
  • A leveled reward or several Potions of Blood from Feran when you return.

Both rings strengthen a Vampire Lord’s special abilities while transformed and raise your attributes while in mortal form. The source does not give exact values.

Choices & consequences

Known bugs & fixes

Rings assigned to already-killed Dragon Priests or Gauldursons may be lost; Uttering Hills Cave, Dead Crone Rock and Hob’s Fall Cave can place the marker where no ring exists (reloading an earlier save can help); no marker for Solstheim before visiting it.

Lore notes

The rings were gifts from Molag Bal to ancient Vampire Lords.
