Destroying the Dawnguard is a post-game quest for those who sided with the vampires in the Dawnguard add-on. With Auriel’s Bow in vampire hands, Garan Marethi or Fura Bloodmouth of the Volkihar Clan expect the Dawnguard to strike back, and they would rather you struck first. The target is the order’s leadership at Fort Dawnguard in the Rift.
How to start
You must be a vampire and have completed Kindred Judgment on the vampire side. Then speak to Garan Marethi or Fura Bloodmouth at Castle Volkihar. Their reasoning is simple: now that Auriel’s Bow has been recovered, the hunters will only become more of a nuisance, and cutting off the head of the order should stop a full war before it starts.
Walkthrough
Kill the Dawnguard leaders
Travel to Fort Dawnguard (the journal calls the area Dayspring Canyon). Your objective markers point out every leader you need to kill:
- Agmaer
- Beleval
- Celann
- Durak
- Florentius Baenius
- Gunmar
- Isran
- Sorine Jurard
When you arrive, nobody has noticed you yet, which leaves room for a few sneak attacks before the fight starts in earnest. Once they spot you, they turn hostile straight away, because you are a Vampire Lord. It does not matter that Isran once sent you to Dimhollow Crypt back in Dawnguard and Awakening. The source suggests he must have written you off as dead or turned when you never came back with news.
Vori, Sceolang and Bran are optional kills, but they also attack as soon as they detect you.
Report back
When Isran and the rest of the leaders are dead, return to Castle Volkihar and tell Garan or Fura that the Dawnguard is no longer a threat.
Rewards
- The source lists no specific reward for this quest.
- Random Dawnguard attacks stop once the quest is complete.
Tips and notes
- Ingjard is not at the fort and is not a required kill, even though the quest is about wiping out the order’s leaders.
- Want Sorine’s or Florentius’ Restoration spells before they die? Cast Calm on them and you can still buy from them.
- Both quest givers say the fort is in the Reach, but it is actually in the Rift.
- Every required leader has an objective marker of their own, so if the quest will not advance, check your map for a marker you have missed.
- Opening with stealth makes the fight easier, since you can take down one or two leaders before the rest are alerted.
