Sahloknir is the dragon that gives the Dragonborn a front-row seat to Alduin’s plan. During A Blade in the Dark, the hunt for the cause of the dragons’ return leads to the burial mound outside Kynesgrove, just in time to watch Alduin shatter the stone over Sahloknir’s grave and shout flesh back onto his skeleton. Sahloknir greets his master as lord and asks whether the time has come to restore their ancient rule; Alduin calls him his champion, sneers at the mortal who dares call himself Dragonborn, and orders Sahloknir to kill everyone present.
What follows is a full dragon fight on the hillside above the village. Sahloknir is boastful and talkative throughout, taunting the player about mortal arrogance and how long his own Voice has been silent. His name in the dragon tongue is usually rendered as Phantom-Sky-Hunt, with the middle word also read as ‘rise’.
Where to find him
Sahloknir rests in the dragon burial mound near Kynesgrove in Eastmarch and appears there only during A Blade in the Dark. He is a one-time encounter tied to the quest.
Lore
Local tradition holds that this is the same dragon the Nord hero Jorg Helmbolg killed during the First Era, which would make Kynesgrove’s mound a very old grave indeed.
Notes
- His strength scales with the player: past level 20 he rises as a Blood Dragon, and later as tougher dragon types.
- Unusually, he can use both Fire Breath and Frost Breath.
- In the Dragonborn add-on, Miraak can steal Sahloknir’s soul after he falls.
- Like other dragons he leaves behind dragon bones and dragon scales.
