Voslaarum

A Revered Dragon in Dawnguard that bursts from the frozen lake of the Forgotten Vale with its twin Naaslaarum, using the Drain Vitality shout.

Voslaarum is a Revered Dragon from Dawnguard, and half of a matched pair. His name in the dragon tongue, Vos-Laar-Um, means “Claw-Water-Twin”, and the twin in question is Naaslaarum. The two wait beneath the ice of the Forgotten Vale, and players meet them when they cross the big frozen lake there or get close to the Word Wall nearby.

Being a Revered Dragon, Voslaarum fights with Drain Vitality, which saps your health, magicka and stamina. He also has a trick of his own: he can dive back under the water and resurface wherever he likes, and any holes the twins smash in the ice stay that way permanently.

Where to find them

Voslaarum lives in the Forgotten Vale, which the Dragonborn explores during the Dawnguard quest Touching the Sky. Walking onto the frozen lake, or approaching the Word Wall for Drain Vitality, makes both dragons break through the ice and attack together. They only appear once Dragon Rising has been completed in the main questline, so a character who rushes into Dawnguard early may find the lake strangely quiet.

The Forgotten Vale is a hidden, snowbound valley reached through Darkfall Cave, and the twins are only one of its hazards. Plan the lake crossing for a moment when you are rested, stocked with potions, and ready for a long fight against two dragons at once.

Notes

  • A few Resist Fire potions lie near the treasure chest by the Drain Vitality Word Wall. Grab them before you take on both dragons.
  • Voslaarum is immune to Bend Will, so he cannot be tamed and ridden.
  • With his twin attacking at the same time, this is one of the more crowded dragon fights in the game. Expect to deal with two dragons, not one.

Abilities & attacks

  • Drain Vitality shout
  • Dives under the frozen lake and resurfaces at will
  • Breaks the lake ice permanently
  • Bite, claw and tail attacks; flight

How to beat it

Pick up the Resist Fire potions near the Word Wall chest first, then pull the fight off the lake and onto solid ground if you can, since the twins can break the ice and vanish beneath it. Focus one dragon at a time with bows or Destruction spells while the other circles. Keep magicka and stamina in reserve, because Drain Vitality eats into all three of your attributes.
