Shalidor’s Insights is a set of six scrolls in Skyrim. Rather than casting a spell of their own, five of them sharpen a whole school of magic for 120 seconds, making its spells cheaper and stronger or longer-lasting. The sixth raises your Magicka instead. You don’t buy them: Urag gro-Shub, the librarian of the College of Winterhold, hands them out as rewards for the quest Shalidor’s Insights.

What each scroll does
- Alteration – Alteration spells cost less and last longer, which suits armor and utility spells.
- Conjuration – Conjuration spells cost less and last longer, so summons and bound weapons stay around for more of the fight.
- Destruction – Destruction spells cost less and hit harder, the most direct combat boost of the set.
- Illusion – Illusion spells cost less and last longer.
- Restoration – Restoration spells cost less and become more potent.
- Magicka – raises your Magicka by 100 points and makes it regenerate 1% faster for 120 seconds. Fandom calls it the rarest of the six.
Where to get them
All six come from the same source. When you finish the quest Shalidor’s Insights, Urag gro-Shub gives the Dragonborn one of these scrolls as the reward, so which one you receive is not fixed. None of the source articles list merchants or loot locations for them.
Tips
- Read the scroll right before a demanding fight or a long chain of casting: the effect only lasts 120 seconds.
- The 50-septim value is low, so the scrolls are worth far more used than sold.
