Knight-Paladin Gelebor is a Snow Elf, one of the very last of his people, and the sentinel of the Chantry of Auri-El (Dawnguard). For thousands of years he has guarded this holy place alone, keeping an oath to protect the Chantry and everything in it until the day he dies. He is calm, polite and quite tired of repeating the same conversation with every visitor.
Where to find them
You meet Gelebor at the shrine of Auriel inside Darkfall Cave, the entrance to the Chantry. After the quest he stays on the overlook in the vale, still keeping the Betrayed out of the Sanctum.
Quests
Touching the Sky – Visitors only ever come for one thing, Auriel’s Bow, and he always asks the same price: kill his brother, Arch-Curate Vyrthur. He believes the Falmer, whom he calls the Betrayed, corrupted Vyrthur when they stormed the Inner Sanctum. Gelebor can’t go himself because leaving the wayshrines unguarded would break his sacred duty. Instead, he gives you the Initiate’s Ewer and sends you along the pilgrims’ path, from wayshrine to wayshrine, five in total.
When you return with the news that Vyrthur was a vampire who controlled the Falmer, Gelebor is quietly relieved. The Betrayed were not to blame, which gives him hope that they may one day find their way back to Auri-El. He gladly lets you keep the bow, travelling with Serana as part of the Dawnguard storyline.
Services
Once the quest is done, bring him Elven arrows and he will bless them into Sunhallowed Elven Arrows, twenty at a time. Fired from Auriel’s Bow, they create bursts of sunlight that are especially devastating to the undead. He also warns that dipping arrows in blood would corrupt the bow’s purpose, if you’re foolish enough to try.
Personality & relationships
Gelebor is dignified and patient, with a dry, weary sense of humour about his endless guard duty. He prefers to be called a snow elf, since the name Falmer has a bad ring to most travellers. His history is a sad one. The Snow Elves were once a rich society in Skyrim, constantly at war with the Nords. When they faced extinction, many sought protection from the Dwemer, who demanded that they be blinded. Over generations those elves twisted into the Falmer. The isolated Chantry, home to about a hundred elves, heard about the deal too late, and later fell to the very Betrayed it never joined. Only Gelebor and his brother survived.
Despite everything, he feels sympathy for the Betrayed. He doesn’t believe they can be cured, but he has noticed their intelligence growing and hopes that one day they could remember they were once a proud people.
Good to know
If you tell him you helped wipe out his kind, he gently points out that other hidden Snow Elf communities might exist somewhere on Nirn, and that Vyrthur probably didn’t give you a choice anyway.
