Hvitkald Peak

Secret mountain-top landmark near Solstheim’s west coast, northwest of the Abandoned Lodge, that only reveals itself once you stand right on the summit.

Hvitkald Peak is a lonely mountain summit near the west coast of Solstheim, northwest of the Abandoned Lodge. It is one of four secret landmarks on the island added with the Dragonborn expansion, and it plays hard to get: the marker does not even show on your compass until your boots are on the very top. There is no dungeon, no boss and no chest listed here – just the satisfaction of having climbed something you probably should not have.

What you’ll find

  • A rocky, snow-dusted summit with extremely rough, dangerous terrain on the way up.
  • A hidden map marker that appears only when you stand on the peak itself.
  • A fast-travel point once discovered – it behaves like any other landmark afterwards.
  • Neighbouring peaks behind the exit of Fahlbtharz, separated from Hvitkald by a small chasm.

Tips

The relatively painless route, according to players, starts at the peaks behind the Fahlbtharz exit. Climb those, then use Whirlwind Sprint to cross the short gap to the landmark – a single word of the shout is enough. If you go the classic way, expect a lot of sideways hopping, sliding and quiet swearing. Save before every serious jump, since a missed ledge here can end with a long, fast trip downhill. Remember the marker only pops up on the summit, so if your compass is still empty you simply are not high enough yet. Once it is discovered, you can fast travel back whenever you want to admire the view without repeating the climb.

Good to know

Hvitkald is Norwegian for “white cold” – a fair warning about the weather. Together with Mount Moesring and two other peaks, it makes up the island’s set of hidden summit landmarks, a nice side goal for completionists who have already looted everything with a lid.
