Broken Tusk Mine is a mine on Solstheim, added with the Dragonborn expansion, found in the northwestern reaches of the island, a fair distance north of Raven Rock. The tunnels now belong to Rieklings. It is a compact stop, but worth it if you are after Heart Stone, a quick pile of gold or one of several radiant quest targets. Just don’t expect the locals to hand anything over politely.
What you’ll find
- A Riekling crew covering most of the family tree: Scouts, Hunters, Warriors and Chargers.
- Two Heart Stone deposits inside the mine.
- Four or five gold ingots lying around for anyone quick enough to pocket them.
- A guard tower outside the entrance, with an East Empire Company Strongbox tucked beneath it.
Quests
Broken Tusk Mine is one of the possible locations for several radiant objectives:
- Filial Bonds – Torkild may turn up here.
- Rings of Blood Magic (Dawnguard) – one of the rings can be placed here.
- Fetch Me That Book! – a rare book requested by Urag gro-Shub may be hidden inside.
Notable items
- Heart Stone (two deposits).
- Gold ingots (four or five).
- East Empire Company Strongbox under the guard tower.
Tips
Check under the guard tower before you even go inside – the strongbox is easy to walk past. Riekling Chargers come in fast, so expect a rush rather than a polite queue. Bring a pickaxe: two Heart Stone deposits in one small mine is a nice haul, and the gold ingots alone make the detour worthwhile for a cash-strapped adventurer. Note that the Rings of Blood Magic objective only exists if you own Dawnguard. If a radiant quest pointed you here, sweep the whole mine, since the target can be anywhere in the tunnels. With four kinds of Riekling under one roof, it also makes a decent warm-up before tougher Solstheim dungeons.
