Northshore Landing

Small dock on Solstheim’s north coast where A New Source of Stalhrim ends with Ancarion, home to Old Salty, an ebony vein and plenty of loot.

Northshore Landing is a small dock on the northern coast of Solstheim, added with the Dragonborn expansion. It sits by a river and a waterfall, with a ruined jetty and a hut overlooking the water. Most players arrive here at the climax of A New Source of Stalhrim, but the spot is worth a return visit for its ore, ingredients and one very large crab.

What you’ll find

  • Mudcrabs along the shore, led by Old Salty – a unique, unusually huge Mudcrab.
  • A hut with an East Empire Company Strongbox on a shelf.
  • An ebony ore vein by the cliff near the waterfall, which reportedly refills every 10–15 in-game days.
  • A Nirnroot right by the waterfall, and a chest of leveled loot right underneath it.
  • A pearl oyster and a regular oyster near the dock by the river, plus barrels of fish and alchemy ingredients.
  • A table with a map of Skyrim, an iron dagger stabbed into Winterhold, and a few gold coins.

Quests

A New Source of Stalhrim – after you free Baldor Iron-Shaper at the Abandoned Lodge, he sends you here. A Thalmor boat is docked, and you face Ancarion: either side with him and hand over the secret of crafting Stalhrim, or punish him for his crimes. While the boat is here, Old Salty and the other crabs vanish until the quest is done.

Pain in the Necklace – the strongbox here counts toward it.

Notable items

  • East Empire Pendant from the strongbox in the hut.
  • Three more usable chests with leveled loot, plus the waterfall chest.
  • A sunken apprentice-locked chest near a sunken boat hull.
  • A silver ingot on sunken crates under the broken part of the dock.

Tips

Go for a swim: two of the better finds are underwater, beneath the ruined dock and by the sunken hull. Remember that this strongbox does not restock like other ones, so one visit is all you get. Look northeast and you will spot an island with a Nordic statue – two sarcophagi there hold Stalhrim, so a pickaxe and a short paddle pay off.
