Chief Yamarz

Cowardly, cursed Orc chief of Largashbur whose failures let giants seize Malacath’s shrine – and the villain of The Cursed Tribe.

Chief Yamarz is the Orsimer (Orc) chief of Largashbur and the main antagonist of The Cursed Tribe. On paper he is the strongest warrior of his tribe. In practice he is exhausted, nervous and not nearly as brave as an Orc chief is supposed to be – and his whole stronghold is paying for it.

Where to find them

Inside Largashbur. Like many stronghold Orcs he doesn’t care for outsiders and won’t talk to you at all until the quest begins.

Quests

The Cursed Tribe: Yamarz let giants take over Malacath’s shrine in Fallowstone Cave, and Malacath has punished the tribe with a curse and constant giant attacks. Yamarz hasn’t slept properly in weeks and resents the wise woman Atub for bringing in a stranger. When Malacath gives him one last chance – kill the giants’ leader and bring back its weapon, Shagrol’s Warhammer – Yamarz blames you and insists you come along to clear the path.

He travels with you as a temporary follower to Fallowstone Cave and the grove beyond. At the giant, he offers you gold to do the killing so he can claim the glory. Refuse and he tries himself, and the giant kills him in a single blow. Accept and slay the giant, and he turns on you so nobody learns the truth. Either way, you return to Largashbur with the hammer, tell the tribe what happened, Malacath rewards you with Volendrung, and Gularzob becomes the new chief.

Personality & relationships

Yamarz is bitter, lazy in battle and quick to blame others, mocking you as a “useless outsider” when you offer to help. He wants the tribe back, and wants you to leave them alone once you’ve done his dirty work. According to cut dialogue for Atub, the curse began soon after he became chief by defeating Shagrol in combat. The stronghold’s gatekeeper Ugor still believes he will provide for the tribe, and Gularzob is loyal to him too – which makes his betrayal all the more telling.

Good to know

If he does attempt the giant himself, his health drops so low that one hit finishes him. If you flee after he turns on you, he keeps chasing you and seems to know roughly where you are. Most other people and creatures, including his own tribe, will attack him on sight at that point.
