Icewater Jetty

Broken-down little jetty northwest of Northwatch Keep with a single boat, used in the Dawnguard quest Bloodline to reach Castle Volkihar.

Icewater Jetty (Dawnguard) is a small, battered jetty on the northern coast, northwest of Northwatch Keep. Half of it has collapsed into the water, and the only thing of interest is the single boat tied up beside it. That boat, however, is your ticket to Castle Volkihar, the island fortress of the Volkihar vampires. It is the kind of place you visit with purpose, not for the view.

What you’ll find

  • A crumbling, half-submerged wooden jetty.
  • One docked boat that takes you across to Castle Volkihar.
  • A few harvestable plants growing near the dock.
  • Clam Digger’s Camp a little way to the southwest.

Quests

Bloodline – you come here with Serana to row out to her family’s castle, the opening step into the vampire side of the Dawnguard story.

Tips

The boat is convenient, but not mandatory: you can swim across to the castle if you prefer. Just remember these are icy northern waters, so it is the less comfortable option.

Coming from elsewhere? The ferrymen Gort, Jolf and Harlaug will bring you here for 500 gold – a steep fare for a broken jetty, but cheaper than a long walk through the snow if you are in a hurry.

Once you have been to the castle a few times, you’ll mostly use the jetty as a quick landmark on the way back and forth. Grab the plants while you wait for your legs to stop shivering.
