Clearpine Pond is a calm, pretty little pond in the woods northeast of Pinemoon Cave, south of Fort Hraggstad and west of the Statue to Meridia. In the middle sits a small island with a few tree stumps and a fallen trunk. It looks like the perfect picnic spot. It is not. Some of those trees are not really trees.
What you’ll find
- Two or three spriggans disguised as trees on the island. They stay hidden until you loot something or start a fight with something nearby.
- The body of an alchemist beside the fallen trunk, who clearly found that out the hard way.
- A unique flower basket next to her with two taproots inside, and an apothecary’s satchel tucked underneath.
- A novice-locked chest inside the hollow of a huge old tree trunk on the southwest side of the island.
- Mora Tapinella growing on two of the stumps.
Quests
The pond can be picked as a location for the radiant quest Amulets of Night Power.
Notable items
- De Rerum Dirennis – an Alchemy skill book, found on the dead alchemist.
- The apothecary’s satchel can contain a Daedra heart, which is a very nice find this early in the woods.
Tips
Treat every suspiciously shaped tree as an enemy. The moment you grab the skill book or the basket, the spriggans wake up, so be ready before you loot rather than after. Fire spells or a good bow help a lot.
Since this is basically a free alchemy starter kit – skill book, taproots, mushrooms and a satchel that might hold a Daedra heart – it is a worthwhile stop if you are heading toward the fort or the Meridia shrine anyway. Just don’t end up as the second dead alchemist on the island.
