Traitor’s Post

Two-storey bandit-held house east of Hollyfrost Farm with bear traps, a hidden upper floor reached over the roof, Treasure Map VII and a skill book.

Traitor’s Post is an abandoned two-storey house east of Hollyfrost Farm, now occupied by leveled bandits. It looks like a simple homestead raid, but there’s a sneaky twist: the upper floor can’t be reached from inside, and the best chest in the building is waiting up there for anyone willing to do a little rooftop parkour.

What you’ll find

  • Leveled bandits holding the house.
  • Several bear traps scattered around the building.
  • Two frost trolls nearby that will join the party if they spot you.
  • A sealed-off second floor with a master-locked chest containing gold, a spell tome and leveled loot.
  • A tanning rack and a wood chopping block.

Quests

Treasure Map VII, part of The Great Skyrim Treasure Hunt, is found here.

Notable items

  • Treasure Map VII – on top of a novice-locked chest in one of the ground-floor bedrooms
  • A Dance in Fire, Book II – skill book on a shelf to the left as you enter
  • Master-locked chest upstairs with gold and a spell tome
  • A leveled soul gem on the floor behind a barrel in the western corner of the ground floor (crouch to reach it)

Tips

Watch your step outside – the bear traps are easy to miss in the snow, and nothing ruins a dramatic entrance like a trap clamped to your ankle. Deal with the trolls first if they come, as fighting them and bandits at the same time gets messy fast.

To reach the upper floor, climb the rocks behind the house on the north side and jump to the roof right of the chimney. Hop onto the attached room’s roof, work your way up, then jump back to the main roof, which puts you higher than you could get otherwise. Head to the southeast corner and drop through the gap in the roof. If that’s too much acrobatics, there’s a known shortcut: jump and activate a chair on the upper floor from below, and the game moves you up.

Bring several lockpicks for the master lock – that chest is the main reason to make the climb.
