Cliffside Retreat

Lonely hunter’s shack on a cliff south of Dragon Bridge with a trader, a free bed, The Marksmanship Lesson and one of Skyrim’s best views.

Cliffside Retreat is a tiny shack perched on a cliff south of the village of Dragon Bridge. Its porch looks straight out over the wide valley below, and many players rank the view among the best in the game. A hunter lives here, happy to trade, and there’s a single bed you can use. It’s the kind of place you stop at for five minutes and end up staring at the scenery for twenty.

What you’ll find

  • A small shack with a porch overlooking the valley.
  • A resident hunter you can trade with.
  • One bed that you’re allowed to sleep in without anyone calling the guards.
  • Lavender and tundra cotton growing nearby.

Tips

The shack sits south of Dragon Bridge, so it fits nicely into a trip along the river or the hills between the village and the valley below.

Sell off your pelts and spare gear to the hunter, take a nap, and grab the skill book before you leave – it’s one of the easiest free Archery levels around.

Some players enjoy getting the hunter on their feet and then shouting them off the cliff with Unrelenting Force. It’s a crime, it’s rude, and it costs you your trader, so maybe just admire the view instead.

Good to know

East of the shack is an unmarked spot known as the Adventurer’s Campsite. The adventurers aren’t home, but they left a journal describing where they went – a small mystery to follow up on if you’re curious.

The hunter has a known glitch where they can appear headless and practically naked. They still talk and can still be pickpocketed, which is impressive dedication to the job.
