Red Eagle Redoubt is a Forsworn-held cave overlooking the big Forsworn base at Karthspire Camp, east of Sky Haven Temple. On the map it’s called Red Eagle Redoubt, but when you walk up to the entrance it reads ‘To Red Eagle’s Ascent’ – because that’s really what it is: a tunnel that funnels you up into the hills towards the Sundered Towers. Come here for the Red Eagle storyline or because someone in town wants Forsworn heads.
What you’ll find
- Forsworn guarding the outside and the cave itself.
- A tunnel lined with eagle-head statues and pillars, a strong hint that this was once Red Eagle’s own camp.
- A boulder trap inside – watch the slopes.
- An iron door at the end of the tunnel opening onto Red Eagle’s Ascent, which climbs all the way to the Sundered Towers.
- At the top: a Forsworn Briarheart wielding Red Eagle’s Fury, a chest with random loot, a Red Eagle Tower Key and some random enchanted weapons.
Quests
- Find Red Eagle’s Sword – starts when you read The Legend of Red Eagle; the sword Red Eagle’s Fury is recovered along this route. It leads on to Rebel’s Cairn.
- Lisbet’s Missing Shipment – the Redoubt is one of the possible spots for Lisbet’s lost goods from Markarth.
- Trouble in Skyrim – a Companions job that can send you here to take out the Forsworn leader.
Tips
Briarhearts hit hard and cast nasty spells, so deal with the one up top from range or with a sneak attack if you can. Since the whole place sits right above Karthspire Camp, avoid dragging a fight down the hill unless you fancy taking on two Forsworn bases in one afternoon. If you only want the towers, it’s possible to reach them by climbing around outside, though you’ll miss the cave itself. And if your quest log keeps nagging you about Red Eagle after you’ve finished – every fresh copy of the book can restart it, so be careful what you read.
