Northwind Summit is a dragon lair on a mountaintop northwest of Shor’s Stone and southwest of Cragslane Cavern. You can get there the scenic way by climbing the peak from Shor’s Stone, or the sensible way by walking through Northwind Mine and out the back. Waiting at the top: a Word Wall for Aura Whisper and, usually, a dragon who considers it their private balcony.
What you’ll find
- A leveled dragon perched on the Word Wall – or skeletons guarding it if you haven’t finished Dragon Rising yet.
- The Word Wall, teaching a word of Aura Whisper.
- Two small buildings beside the wall; one shack holds an adept-locked chest.
- A smelter to the right (west) of the wall, between the two buildings.
- An orichalcum vein over the hill behind the wall and a moonstone vein to the left of it when coming from the mine.
Quests
The summit can be the target of a dragon bounty, and the Greybeards‘ Word of Power hints can send you here too. It’s also one of the possible places where Meridia’s Beacon can turn up.
Notable items
- Word Wall – Aura Whisper
- Adept-locked chest in the shack
- Possible Meridia’s Beacon spawn
Tips
The dragon is sometimes asleep on the wall. A sneaky character with a dagger and the right perks can creep up and finish it with a sneak attack to its exposed tail – the most embarrassing way for a dragon to go. Ranged fighters can use the second building to the right of the wall, or the rocks opposite the first building, as cover while summoning an atronach and peppering the dragon with arrows. Mages can dual-cast Firebolt or Ice Spike; with the Impact perk, well-timed casts can keep staggering it. Avoid hiding in the chest shack when the dragon crash-lands, though – the churned-up earth can trap you inside. Once it’s dead, use the smelter to turn the ore you mined into ingots on the spot.
