Whiterun Stormcloak Camp

Stormcloak war camp near the foot of the Throat of the World, led by Hjornskar Head-Smasher, with smithing stations, steel arrows and frequent dragon visits.

Whiterun Stormcloak Camp is a Stormcloak field camp near the base of the Throat of the World, east of Whiterun. Hjornskar Head-Smasher commands the soldiers here. It is a handy pit stop for Stormcloak supporters – and an unusually lively one, since dragons seem to find the place irresistible.

What you’ll find

  • Hjornskar Head-Smasher and a group of Stormcloak soldiers, including some wounded.
  • An alchemy lab, anvil, grindstone and workbench.
  • A low-level chest with random loot.
  • A few horses – which, as in most camps, could technically be stolen.
  • Frequent dragon visits, usually at night every couple of days, although they sometimes circle without landing.

Quests

Liberation of Skyrim – the camp is part of the Stormcloak side of the Civil War.

Tips

Like other Stormcloak camps, this is a good place to stock up on steel arrows. The crafting stations let you patch up your gear before or after a dragon fight, which here is a genuinely relevant scheduling question.

If you have joined the Imperial Legion, expect the soldiers to draw steel the moment you walk in, or the moment you try to chat. Linger too long and they will attack, so grab what you came for – or nothing – and leave briskly.

Good to know

If the Stormcloaks take Whiterun, the soldiers move on and a small group of hunters settles into the camp instead. Occasionally only the commander and the wounded soldiers are present when you arrive.
