Dragonbone Warhammer

The heaviest hitter in the game, a Dawnguard warhammer with 28 base damage built from a dragon’s femur.

The Dragonbone Warhammer is, quite simply, the biggest stick in Skyrim. Added in Dawnguard, it has 28 base damage, the highest of any weapon in the base game and its official add-ons. It also weighs a hefty 33 and is worth 4,275 gold.

The head is a dragon’s femur mounted on a long ebony handle, with a fylfot carved into the hilt. Forged from three dragon bones, two ebony ingots and leather strips, it is the crowning achievement for a two-handed build in Dragonplate Armor.

Where to find

  • One of the three Keepers in the Soul Cairn can wield one, which you can loot after killing it. It does not appear at lower levels.
  • The surest way to get one is to forge it yourself at any blacksmith’s forge, once dragon bones start piling up from your dragon kills.

Crafting and upgrading

Crafting at a forge: 3 × Leather Strips, 2 × Ebony Ingot, 3 × Dragon Bone. Requires the Dragon Armor Smithing perk.

Improving at a grindstone: 1 × Dragon Bone. The Arcane Blacksmith perk doubles the improvement.

Tips and notes

  • Improve it at a grindstone with a dragon bone; the Dragon Armor perk doubles the improvement.
  • Forging needs Smithing 100 and the Dragon Armor perk.
  • The slow swing means it shines with power attacks and the Two-Handed perks that boost them.
  • For a slightly faster swing at a small damage cost, see the Dragonbone Battleaxe or Greatsword.
