Stonehill Bluff is a giant camp tucked into the mountains west of the Tower of Mzark. It sits in a small clearing ringed by huge rocks and decorated with the bleached bones of mammoths, which is the giant way of saying ‘please do not come in’. You will probably visit to collect a quest ingredient or to settle a bounty for the local Jarl.
What you’ll find
- Two giants: one standing guard at the only entrance, the other inside the enclosure.
- Massive mammoth skeletons scattered around as decoration.
- A single way in, through a gap in the ring of boulders.
- Two corundum ore veins a short way to the southwest.
Quests
- Repairing the Phial – you need mammoth tusk powder, which sits in an enormous stone bowl in the middle of the camp.
- Kill the Giant – a bounty from the local Jarl may name this camp.
Notable items
- Two chests.
- Six charred skeevers – the giants’ idea of a barbecue.
- Seven pouches holding mammoth cheese bowls.
- The mammoth tusk powder for Repairing the Phial.
Tips
Since there is only one entrance, the guard giant will spot you early, so decide your plan before walking up. Ranged attacks from higher ground keep you out of club range, and a giant’s swing is famously good at sending careless adventurers into orbit. If you only need the tusk powder, a stealthy character can try slipping in, grabbing it from the bowl and leaving without starting a fight. Bring a pickaxe to mine the corundum veins on the way out – corundum is always welcome at the forge. The enclosure is small, so once one giant gets angry, expect the second to join in quickly. When the dust settles, raid both chests, pocket the charred skeevers as trail snacks and open the pouches for the mammoth cheese – a giant’s pantry is surprisingly well stocked.
