Snowpoint Beacon is a small stone watchtower perched high on a mountain peak southwest of Winterhold and south of Driftshade Refuge. A gang of bandits has moved in, though not many of them – apparently even outlaws have limits when it comes to freezing their toes off on a mountaintop. It’s a quick stop for loot, experience and a great view, and occasionally the target of a miscellaneous task that points you here.
What you’ll find
- A modest group of bandits holding the tower.
- A couple of locked chests.
- A handful of silver ingots lying on a table.
- Sweeping views of the snowfields from the top of the peak.
Quests
No main quests happen here, but several miscellaneous objectives can send you to Snowpoint Beacon, so don’t be surprised if a random note or request points this way.
Notable items
- Locked chests with leveled loot.
- Silver ingots on the table – small, but worth grabbing if you smith jewelry.
Tips
The tower sits high up, so the hardest part may simply be the climb. Plan your route and approach from a direction that keeps you out of sight for as long as possible. Anyone up on the tower has the high ground, so a bow of your own or a ward spell will make the walk up less unpleasant. Since there aren’t many bandits, a stealthy character can pick them off one by one before the rest notice. Bring a few lockpicks for the chests, and remember to pocket the silver before you leave – the bandits won’t be needing it.
Good to know
Snowpoint Beacon is one of the many small watchtowers dotting Skyrim’s mountains. They rarely hide anything spectacular, but they’re good practice, good loot and a quick way to clear a marker off your map. Pair it with a trip to Driftshade Refuge to the north if you’re out exploring the area anyway, and bring something warm to drink.
