Glacial Crevice

Falmer-inhabited cave system deep in the Forgotten Vale’s canyon, crossed during Touching the Sky, with underwater passages and chests hidden for water-breathers.

Glacial Crevice (Dawnguard) is a large cave system sunk deep into the canyon of the Forgotten Vale. It’s home to a community of Falmer villagers, which in practice means it’s home to a lot of people who want to stab you. You pass through it on the way across the Vale toward the Inner Sanctum.

What you’ll find

  • Falmer living throughout the caves, along with chaurus and frost trolls.
  • Icy lakes inside the caverns with several chests and entrances hidden underwater.
  • A submerged tunnel linking the first section of lake to another one farther in. Between them is a small basin with dead Falmer drifting under the surface and a chest sitting on a slab of ice.
  • An extra area reachable through the Paragon Platform with the Diamond Paragon, holding a chest with gems, gold and potions.

Quests

The crevice is part of the route during Touching the Sky, the Dawnguard quest for Auriel’s Bow.

Notable items

  • The Diamond Paragon is carried by a frost giant just after you leave the crevice; head left and up the hill past some Falmer.
  • Hidden underwater chests, including the one on the ice in the sunken basin.

Tips

Water breathing is strongly recommended here; a potion or spell turns the flooded parts from a frantic gasp into a relaxed treasure hunt. Falmer fight well in the dark and in groups, so take the cave slowly and pick off guards one at a time if you can sneak. Once you come out the far side, keep your eyes on the hill to the left: that’s where the Diamond Paragon giant hangs out. Past the exit, the Falmer village at the far end hides Unknown Book, Vol. IV in the Warmonger’s hut, the largest one.
