Bilgemuck

The Rieklings’ runaway pet bristleback from Thirsk Mead Hall on Solstheim, lured home with meat during The Chief of Thirsk Hall.

Bilgemuck is a unique bristleback on Solstheim and the closest thing the Rieklings of Thirsk Mead Hall have to a beloved pet. He lives in a pen at the hall, at least until the Rieklings accidentally frighten him and he bolts into the wilderness. Bringing him home is one of the odd jobs you take on if you throw in your lot with the little blue-skinned tribe.

Where to find him

Bilgemuck starts in his pen at Thirsk Mead Hall in northern Solstheim, where the Rieklings have taken over. During the quest he has wandered off into the surrounding countryside, and you need to track him down and coax him back into the pen.

The Chief of Thirsk Hall

If you agree to help the Rieklings rather than the Nords who want to retake Thirsk, the Riekling Chief sets you a series of tasks in The Chief of Thirsk Hall. One of them is to find Bilgemuck. Instead of fighting him, you offer him meat as bait and lure him back to his enclosure.

Bilgemuck is a picky eater, though. He ignores Ash Hopper meat, boar meat and fish of every sort – with the exceptions of salmon and Seared Slaughterfish. So if he turns his snout up at your bait, try a salmon dish or seared slaughterfish instead. Refusing boar meat is perhaps understandable.

Notes

  • At level 7 with 260 health he is a fairly ordinary bristleback in combat terms; the quest is about herding him, not killing him.
  • If you kill him anyway, he drops the same boar meat and tusk as any other bristleback.
  • Other unique Solstheim beasts include Lord Tusk and Old Salty.

Abilities & attacks

  • Bristleback charge and tusk attacks
  • Can be lured by dropped food (only certain kinds)

How to beat it

There is normally no reason to fight Bilgemuck. Bring salmon or Seared Slaughterfish, drop it in front of him and keep leading him toward the pen at Thirsk Mead Hall; ash hopper meat, boar meat and other fish will not work.
