Calcelmo’s Tower

Study at the top of Calcelmo’s Museum in Understone Keep, Markarth, home of Calcelmo’s Stone – key to the Hard Answers quest – and two skill books.

Calcelmo’s Tower is a study at the top of Calcelmo’s Museum inside Understone Keep in Markarth. You reach it by climbing the stairs and passing through the study. It’s the home of Calcelmo’s Stone, the tablet you need to copy during Hard Answers.

What you’ll find

  • A large study holding Calcelmo’s Stone, a tablet engraved with Falmer and Dwemeris text.
  • An arcane enchanter.
  • Captain Aquilius is listed among the characters here.

Quests

In Hard Answers, you copy the Falmer Translation Guide from the stone. You need a roll of paper and charcoal – both are in the room right behind you as you face the tablet. The result is Calcelmo’s Stone Rubbing.

Tips

Grab both skill books while you’re up here. The tower is part of Calcelmo‘s Dwemer Museum, so it pairs naturally with a visit to Calcelmo’s Laboratory.

Good to know

Calcelmo’s Stone is a nod to the real-world Rosetta Stone, which helped decipher Egyptian hieroglyphs.
