The White Phial is the alchemy shop in the market district of Windhelm. The Altmer Nurelion runs it with his apprentice Quintus Navale, who will eventually take over. Drop in to restock ingredients, buy potions, or pick up a quest about an artefact Nurelion has chased his entire life.
What you’ll find
- Alchemical ingredients, ready-made potions and potion recipes for sale.
- An alchemy lab in the far corner that you are free to use – great for practising Alchemy.
- A cooking spit in the adjoining room.
Quests
The White Phial – Nurelion asks you to recover the legendary vessel from Forsaken Cave.
Notable items
- Illusion skill book The Black Arts on Trial, below the counter at the back.
- The soul gem belonging to Wylandriah, hidden in a barrel under the stairs, for the unmarked quest Help Wylandriah.
Residents
Nurelion is the owner and the one with the obsession; Quintus Navale is his apprentice and the man who keeps the shop running day to day. Since Quintus is set to inherit the business, he is the face you’ll be dealing with more and more as time goes on.
Tips
Grab the skill book before you leave – it’s free Illusion progress sitting under the counter. If you are hoarding ingredients, the lab in the corner lets you brew and sell back to the shop in one visit. And yes, Nurelion will talk your ear off about his phial; humour him, the payoff (The White Phial itself) is worth it.
Good to know
The shop is named after an ancient alchemical relic said to be crafted from the first snow that fell on the Throat of the World. Nurelion picked the name hoping someone would one day walk in with news of where it was.
