Hall of Attainment

Apprentice dormitory of the College of Winterhold, with your own room, J’zargo, Brelyna, Onmund and several masters living just down the hall.

The Hall of Attainment is the living quarters of the College of Winterhold, found on the left side of the courtyard. Once you join the College, one of its rooms is yours – a bed, wardrobes and free ingredients, all in a building full of very opinionated mages.

What you’ll find

Two floors with about six rooms each:

  • Lower floor – J’zargo (north), your room (northeast), the exit to the courtyard (east), Tolfdir (southeast), Brelyna Maryon (south), Onmund (southwest), the stairwell (west) and Ancano (northwest).
  • Upper floor – a dining room whose food you’re free to take (north), Nirya (northeast), food storage (east), Mirabelle Ervine (southeast), a common sitting area (south), Arniel Gane (southwest), the stairwell (west) and Enthir (northwest).
  • Your room – stocked with valuable ingredients such as Vampire Dust that you can take freely after joining.

Quests

  • Brelyna’s Practice – your classmate Brelyna has a favour to ask. What could possibly go wrong?
  • Out of Balance

Tips

The wardrobes in your room are safe storage and keep holding your gear even after you move on; the wooden barrels, however, are not to be trusted. When you become Arch-Mage your official quarters move to the Arch-Mage’s Quarters, but the old bed here still counts as yours – handy for a nap between lectures. Raid the dining room for snacks before long trips; nobody will call the guards over a wheel of cheese. The food storage room next door is worth a peek too. Since all your neighbours are either classmates or teachers, the Hall is also the easiest place to find them when a quest asks you to check in – just knock on the right door instead of searching the whole College.

Good to know

Living next door to Ancano is about as cosy as it sounds. For quiet study, head to The Arcanaeum – or, if you prefer creepy cellars, the Midden.
