New Allegiances is a Volkihar side quest from the Dawnguard add-on, and it is the closest thing the Volkihar Clan has to a recruitment drive. Vingalmo at Castle Volkihar has picked out a mortal he believes deserves Harkon’s gift, and you are the welcoming committee. No dungeon crawl this time: just a charming smile, a bite, and a very confused new vampire.
How to start
- Join the Volkihar Clan and be a vampire.
- Complete The Bloodstone Chalice.
- Ask Vingalmo in Castle Volkihar whether he needs help. Other vampires in the castle may point you to him or to Feran Sadri if you ask them for work.
Walkthrough
Travel to the candidate
Vingalmo names a town and a person. The possible candidates are:
Seduce and feed
Find the target and use the Vampire’s Seduction power on them to make them pliant. Then feed on them, which delivers the Gift of Blood. If you do not currently have the power, the journal advises going a day without feeding, after which it becomes available. Afterwards the target mutters that they feel strange and need to lie down.
Return to Vingalmo
While your new recruit sleeps off the transformation, head back to Castle Volkihar and tell Vingalmo the deed is done.
Choices and consequences
The quest can fail. If the candidate dies, for example because you kill them, the journal marks the quest as failed. Feeding in public can also go wrong: Cairine may scream and bring Markarth’s guards down on you.
Rewards
- A random item with a random enchantment, or
- 3 Potions of Blood.
Tips and notes
- If you visit your convert later, they will thank you for opening their eyes to the beauty of the night, and they will let you sleep in their coffin whenever you like.
- Turning Haran counts as helping the people of Winterhold toward becoming Thane of Winterhold.
