Cleansing Light

Gunmar sends you to slay a Master Vampire at a random location, with a leveled piece of apparel as payment.

Cleansing Light is a radiant side quest for the Dawnguard in the Dawnguard add-on. Gunmar has located a Master Vampire somewhere in Skyrim and wants it gone. It is a straightforward hunt: find the lair, kill the vampire, collect your reward.

How to start

  • Join the Dawnguard and finish A New Order.
  • You must not be a vampire yourself.
  • Speak to Gunmar at Fort Dawnguard and ask him for work. Which radiant job you are offered is random, so this quest may need a few tries.

Walkthrough

Find the Master Vampire

Gunmar marks a randomly chosen location on your map. The target is a leveled Master Vampire, so expect a tougher fight the higher your level. Possible locations include:

Kill the vampire

Fight your way to the Master Vampire and destroy it. Because the vampire is leveled, come prepared with healing potions and your best anti-vampire gear.

Report to Gunmar

Return to Gunmar at Fort Dawnguard to finish the quest. He hands over a leveled piece of apparel, so the reward scales with your level just like the vampire did. Afterwards you can ask the Dawnguard for more work, as the radiant jobs at the fort are handed out at random.

Rewards

  • A leveled apparel item

Tips and notes

  • Cleansing Light is almost the same quest as the vampire-side job Culling the Beast, which you get if you side with the Volkihar Clan instead.
  • With the Dragonborn add-on installed, the target may be on Solstheim. In that case no quest marker appears until you arrive on the island.
  • Completing this quest is one of the steps that can unlock Florentius Baenius’ radiant quest Lost Relic.
  • Other radiant Dawnguard jobs from the fort include Hide and Seek, Preemptive Strike and Hunting the Monster.

Objectives
