Fox Pelt

Fox Pelt is a light, cheap pelt from Skyrim’s red foxes that tans into a single piece of Leather.

Fox Pelt comes from the red foxes that dart across Skyrim’s forests. Worth 5 gold and weighing just 0.5, it is a small pelt that tans into 1 Leather. Foxes are fast and flee on sight, so this one is earned with a bow rather than a sword, and the reward is honestly more about Archery practice than profit.

How to get it

Hunt foxes in the wooded holds, for example around Falkreath and Riften. Plenty of villagers carry one as everyday clutter, such as Dagny in Dragonsreach and Frodnar in Riverwood, though taking it from them is another matter.

Loose pelts are found outdoors near the Forgotten Vale (2), plus one each in Cracked Tusk Vaults, Blind Cliff Bastion, Fort Snowhawk Prison, Highpoint Tower and Baldor Iron-Shaper’s House in Skaal Village.

Since a fox pelt only gives one piece of Leather and sells for very little, its main value is as a quick leather top-up when you are one piece short at the forge. Tan it on the spot rather than carrying a stack around.

Where it appears

Falkreath is the quiet forest town of southern Skyrim with a famously large graveyard – home of Jarl Siddgeir, the Dead Man’s Drink and a talking dog called Barbas.
Riften is the canal city of the Rift – autumn forests, the Black-Briar family, the Temple of Mara and the Thieves Guild beneath its streets.
Riverwood is the small lumber village where most Skyrim adventures really begin – blacksmith, inn, trader and the road up to Bleak Falls Barrow.

Characters connected to it

Dagny in Skyrim: Jarl Balgruuf’s spoiled young daughter in Dragonsreach, who grumbles about sweetrolls, the war and a late new dress from Solitude.
Frodnar in Skyrim: Hod and Gerdur’s prankster son in Riverwood, Ralof’s nephew and proud owner of Stump the dog – and adoptable with Hearthfire.
