Netch Leather

Netch Leather is the Dragonborn crafting hide used for Bonemold and Chitin armor, bought from a handful of Solstheim merchants.

Netch Leather (Dragonborn) is the Dunmer answer to Skyrim’s cowhide, cured from the floating, jellyfish-like netch of Solstheim. It is used in 21 forge recipes: the Bonemold sets, including Bonemold Armor, the Guard and Pauldron variants and the Improved Bonemold pieces, need the Steel Smithing perk, while light and heavy Chitin Armor requires Elven Smithing. It is worth 10 gold and weighs 2, the same as ordinary leather, and a cuirass typically needs 2 pieces while helmets, boots and shields need 1.

How to get it

Netch Leather is strictly a merchant item. Only four traders carry it: Glover Mallory, the blacksmith in Raven Rock, plus Fethis Alor, Garyn Ienth and Halbarn Iron-Fur, all on Solstheim. Each of them only keeps a small amount in stock, which refreshes over time, so if you plan a full Bonemold or Chitin set, buy whatever they have every time you pass through.

You cannot tan it from ordinary Skyrim hides at a tanning rack, and the game places no loose pieces in the world, so a shopping trip around Solstheim is the only way. Bring some gold and plenty of patience.

Good to know

  • Check every Netch Leather seller on each visit – stock is small and Bonemold sets eat it quickly.
