Vampire Royal Armor is the formal attire of the vampire nobility of the Volkihar Clan (Dawnguard). It is a light cuirass with an armor rating of 30 and a weight of 9, enchanted so that Magicka regenerates 125% faster. The game files hold three versions with identical stats and enchantment: one tied to Lord Harkon and Serana, one worn by Valerica in the Soul Cairn, and one handed out by quests.
How to get it
- Harkon’s gift. During Bloodline at Castle Volkihar, Harkon offers to turn you into a Vampire Lord. The game data links one version to that turning scene, so accepting his gift is the classic way to dress like royalty.
- Kindred Judgment. The same version is also referenced by Kindred Judgment, the final showdown with Harkon.
- Volkihar Ruins. One copy is placed in the ruins beneath Castle Volkihar, so even Dawnguard loyalists can grab a set while exploring.
- Worn by NPCs. Harkon and Serana (first found in Dimhollow Crypt) wear it, and Valerica wears her own copy.
Is it worth wearing?
For spellcasters, very much so. A 125% boost to Magicka regeneration on a chest piece is a big deal, especially early in the Dawnguard questline. The armor rating is modest next to proper light armor, so warriors will look elsewhere, but a mage who wants both protection and fast Magicka refills will be happy. It also pairs nicely with the ordinary Vampire Armor pieces for a matching look.
Good to know
- All three versions share the same name, stats and enchantment.
- The regular version can be tempered with
Leather.
