Hevnoraak is a heavy dragon priest mask whose name translates to “Brutal”. It covers the head slot, weighs 9 and has an armor rating of 23, which is solid for a helmet you can grab mid-game. Its gift is protection: the mask is meant to make you resistant to disease and poison, so no more catching Rockjoint from a wolf or wilting under a frostbite spider’s bite.
How to get it
Hevnoraak rests in Valthume, and you get the mask during the quest “Evil in Waiting”. When you enter the tomb, the ghost Valdar asks you to collect three vessels hidden throughout the ruin. The rooms holding them are guarded by tough draugr, including deathlords even at fairly low levels, so bring potions. Once you return the vessels and perform the ritual with Valdar, Hevnoraak rises from his tomb and you fight him together. Beat the dragon priest and loot the mask from his remains, along with his staff.
Is it worth wearing?
On paper, immunity to disease is great, and it is a neat way to avoid ending up as a vampire by accident if you plan to stay mortal. Players do report that the poison half is unreliable, though, so do not count on it to save you in a fight against spiders or poisoned arrows. Bosmer and Argonians already have similar natural resistances, which makes the mask less exciting for them. In terms of defense it matches the other heavy masks like Rahgot and Otar, and it is tempered with a humble
Iron Ingot, so keeping it upgraded is cheap. For most builds it is more of a utility hat than a main helmet.
Good to know
- It is one of the eight masks needed at the Bromjunaar shrine in Labyrinthian to unlock Konahrik.
- The old official strategy guide listed a different enchantment for it, which does not match the game.
- Masks given to followers have been known to vanish from their inventory over time, so keep it yourself.
