Ironback Hideout

Ruined house across the gully west of the Thalmor Embassy, now a bandit headquarters with a Bandit Chief, corundum ore and the Pickpocket skill book Beggar.

Ironback Hideout is a ruined house northwest of Solitude, sitting directly west of the Thalmor Embassy on the other side of the gully. A group of bandits has turned the wreck into their headquarters. It is a small stop, but a convenient one if you are in the area and want some easy loot and a bit of ore on the way.

What you’ll find

  • A gang of bandits led by a Bandit Chief.
  • The ruined house itself, used as the bandits’ base.
  • A tanning rack.
  • Two corundum ore veins close to the camp.

Notable items

  • Beggar – Pickpocket skill book, on a table inside the ruined house.

Tips

The hideout is small and open, so it is a good place to practise archery or stealth before tackling bigger dungeons. Pick off the outer bandits from range, then deal with the chief. Once the place is quiet, mine the two corundum veins – corundum is needed for steel ingots, so it is always useful for smiths – and use the tanning rack to turn any spare hides into leather.

Since the embassy is right across the gully, you can easily combine a visit here with a trip to the Thalmor’s party venue. Just try not to drag a bandit fight into a building full of High Elves who already dislike you.

And do grab that Beggar book before you leave. A free Pickpocket point from a bandit’s kitchen table is a fitting reward for robbing robbers.
