Hunter’s Rest

A small hunters' shack in the woods between Falkreath and Rorikstead where two friendly hunters trade pelts, with an Archery skill book by their bedrolls.

Hunter’s Rest is a small shack in the forest roughly halfway between Falkreath and Rorikstead, south of Moss Mother Cavern and north of Bannermist Tower. Two friendly hunters live here and are happy to do business. It’s a pleasant little stop on a long walk through the woods – and a nice change from caves full of things that want to eat you.

What you’ll find

  • Two hunters who sell goods mostly gathered from hunting and will buy your hides and tusks.
  • A cooking spit, a tanning rack and a wood chopping block.
  • A beehive on a pole next to the shack.
  • A chest beside the hunters’ bedrolls.

Tips

Use the tanning rack to turn your hunting haul into leather and sell the rest to the hunters, though don’t expect a big pile of gold – their purse is rather limited. The bedrolls belong to the hunters, so you can’t sleep here. Grab the skill book (politely – it’s lying around for anyone to read). The two hunters are often asleep, which makes them easy marks for pickpockets, and, if you’re a vampire, for a late-night snack. We don’t judge.

Good to know

The shack makes a handy waypoint for exploring the western woods. When the Civil War puts it there, the Falkreath Imperial Camp sits a short way to the west, with Glenmoril Coven further beyond it – so if the Companions have sent you witch hunting, this is a good place to drop off pelts, tan some leather and catch your breath before heading in. The beehive next to the shack is also worth a look if you’re collecting alchemy ingredients, and the chopping block lets you earn a few coins splitting firewood.
