Growing nirnroot is apparently harder work than it looks. Avrusa Sarethi runs Sarethi Farm in the Rift, and between the chores, her nirnroot crop and keeping her sister Aduri in line, she is worn out. Offer a hand and she sends you out to collect twenty Jazbay Grapes, one of the rarer ingredients in Skyrim.
How to start
- Go to Sarethi Farm, north-west of Riften and east of Ivarstead.
- Talk to Avrusa Sarethi and remark that she looks exhausted.
- Offer to help. She explains that the acidic juice of jazbay grapes is ideal for the soil she grows nirnroot in, and that she needs twenty for her current crop.
- If you already carry twenty grapes, you can hand them over on the spot, which surprises her considerably.
Walkthrough
1. Gather twenty Jazbay Grapes
The journal tracks your count. Jazbay grows wild almost exclusively in the volcanic tundra of Eastmarch, so that is where you should go. The richest harvesting spots, roughly by number of plants:
- Steamcrag Camp: about 49
- Witchmist Grove: about 47
- Eldergleam Sanctuary: about 35
- The Atronach Stone: about 33
- Bonestrewn Crest: about 31
- Kynesgrove: about 26
- Mistwatch: about 25
- Broken Limb Camp (24), Cronvangr Cave (23) and Riverside Shack (22)
Smaller stashes outside the hot springs:
- Niranye’s House in Windhelm: 4
- Vlindrel Hall in Markarth: 7
- Broken Tower Redoubt and Burguk’s Longhouse cellar (the Reach): 4 each
- Fellglow Keep (Whiterun Hold): 4
- Largashbur Longhouse (the Rift): 4
If you would rather shop than hike, apothecary merchants have about a 21% chance of stocking one to four grapes. They also turn up now and then in rare apothecary’s satchels, and Cultist Adepts occasionally carry one.
2. Deliver the grapes
Return to Avrusa with all twenty. She admits she worried she had asked for too much, and gives you something for the effort, acknowledging that the grapes cannot have been easy or cheap to find.
Rewards
- Several leveled potions
Tips and notes
- One loop around Steamcrag Camp and Witchmist Grove easily covers the full twenty, and the extras are useful for alchemy.
- Combine the trip with other Eastmarch business: Kynesgrove and Eldergleam Sanctuary are on the list above.
- Sarethi Farm itself is worth remembering for alchemists, since Avrusa grows nirnroot there.
- The reward is modest, so this quest is mostly worth it if you already have grapes from earlier travels.
