Malachite Ore

A rare green ore smelted into Refined Malachite, the core material for Glass weapons and armor in Skyrim.

Malachite Ore is what makes Glass gear green. Two chunks at a smelter make one Refined Malachite, which you need for Glass Armor and weapons once you have the Glass Smithing perk. It is one of the scarcest ores in the game with only 35 veins, so treat every one you find like a small treasure chest. Each chunk is worth 30 gold.

How to get it

The best sources are a little out of the way. Dimhollow Cavern, part of Dimhollow Crypt, has 8 veins, and there are another 8 outdoors near the Forgotten Vale (Dawnguard). In Skyrim proper, Steamscorch Mine in Kynesgrove’s gully has 7 veins, the Dwemer ruin Nchardak has 4, and Ruunvald Excavation has 4 veins plus 5 loose chunks. Even the Throat of the World hides 2 veins for climbers.

Loose chunks also appear in Labyrinthian (4) and in Kynesgrove itself (2). Falmer sometimes carry a piece or two. There are no regular merchant listings for this ore in the game data, so you will be doing the digging yourself. Bring a follower with a strong sword arm, since several of these spots are guarded by Falmer, draugr or worse.
