Sylgja is a Nord miner who lives in her own house in Shor’s Stone and works the Redbelly Mine. Mining runs in the family: her parents, Verner Rock-Chucker and Annekke Crag-Jumper, run the mining settlement of Darkwater Crossing, and her father had her swinging a pickaxe while she was still a barefoot little girl.
Where to find them
Around Shor’s Stone, either at home or down in Redbelly Mine.
Quests
Special Delivery – Sylgja took a bad fall in the mine while bringing food to the workers, and she still can’t walk far without resting. A priest of Mara passing through on his way to Dawnstar healed her as best he could – most likely Erandur. Since she can’t make the trip herself, she asks you to carry a satchel of letters to her father in Darkwater Crossing, northwest of Shor’s Stone. Verner sends the satchel back stuffed with replies; bring it to her and she rewards you with a leveled piece of unenchanted jewelry.
Hired Muscle – Farkas may send you to intimidate her by winning a brawl – even if you happen to be married to her.
Follower & marriage
Once you have delivered her satchel to her father, Sylgja becomes a marriage candidate. Marry her and you can also make her mother Annekke a steward (Hearthfire), partly reuniting the family – though mother and daughter don’t share any special dialogue.
Personality & relationships
Sylgja is friendly to travellers and proud of her work, insisting that being a woman doesn’t stop her cracking rock with the best of them. She writes to her parents as often as she can, and she clearly loves Darkwater Crossing – she just thinks it deserves a better name. Grogmar gro-Burzag admires her mining skill, which she appreciates as a change from being noticed only for her looks. Odfel, on the other hand, keeps asking her out, and she keeps turning him down.
Good to know
Drop some clothing near her and she may ask if she can have it, promise to put it on right away, and then leave it lying on the floor.
