Brynjolf is a Nord thief and the second-in-command of the Thieves Guild in Riften. Charming, confident and always looking for fresh talent, he is the man who walks up to you in Riften’s marketplace and tells you that you look like someone who could use a bit of coin.
The Thieves Guild
Brynjolf’s sales pitch starts the quest “A Chance Arrangement”, your first job for the guild. From there he becomes your guide through the guild’s questline, working under the Guildmaster, Mercer Frey. Without spoiling too much: the guild’s story gets a lot deeper – and darker – than a few stolen rings.
A Cornered Rat
In the main quest, Brynjolf is the first person to ask about the old man hiding in the Ratway. In A Cornered Rat he points you towards the Ragged Flagon and the Ratway, where Esbern is hiding from the Thalmor.
Where to find him
During the day, Brynjolf runs a “miracle elixir” stall in Riften’s marketplace. In the evening he relaxes at the Bee and Barb, and later in the questline you will usually find him in the Ragged Flagon.
